I’ve just found out about Soundclouds new ‘automatic ‘ copyright infringement I.D. system , after one of my tracks being pulled for using copyrighted material by some bloke called Gianni Bardaro ,
who I’ve never even heard of..
My track was a 1 minute preview called ‘arc reactor’. I spent about 5 hours tonight putting the finishing touches to it , programming every note on VST synths , making the beats from scratch , and excitedly uploading it because I knew it was a great little track.
Two ( 2 !!! ) minutes later I got an email saying my track had been flagged and taken down because the copyright holder alerted them to it , saying that my track contained copyrighted material.
It doesn’t. Not evein the slightest I
The thing that most annoyed me was that I had posted the link to various sites already , and anyone who clicked it would’ve been taken to a 404 page , which made me look stupid.
That , and the serious legal threats , in my face , after disputing the claim ( telling me I’d be liable for court costs , could have my soundcloud account closed etc…..have made me seriously consider if I can trust soundcloud , if they are allowing an ‘ automatic ‘ content identification system to unnecessarily weed out tracks that were recorded with sincerity and integrity.
Its a good thing that soundcloud are protecting copyright holders work , but to do it in such an automated way , where a piece of software cant tell its ass from its elbow musically , is shambolic , to say the least
So , instead of getting feedback on my track , I now have to await due process to tell me that my track , is actually mine , and recorded with my own hands…every iota coming from within me.
I had already begun to reconsider my subscription at soundcloud , following the redesign of the site , which , when viewd on a tablet , is like a car crash , but this doesn’t inspire my confidence at all.
I have the data files to prove my track is an original piece of music , that is also not even remotely similar to the music I am claimed to have nicked.
I wonder how many others this has affected , and , just as myspace started to form cracks , I wonder if the writing is on the wall for Soundcloud.
Possibly time to look for a less I
